Pear-ing up to teach good nutrition

Healthy habits are best learned at a young age, when children are still establishing eating habits that will last a lifetime. Outside the home, classrooms and cafeterias provide the best source of nutritional education.

Bring pear nutrition lessons to the classroom with a USA Pear Educator’s Kit. This resource can be used alone, or in conjunction with our School Food Service Kit. The Educator’s Kit includes a sample of a range of material suitable for grades K through High School. This allows you to select appropriate items to include in class curriculum or lunchroom promotions.

PearBear and the USA Pear Buddies Programs

USA Pears has an expanding child nutrition education program for schools. The pages in this section, and the Just for Kids sections, are a source for just some of the materials we can provide.

A cornerstone of our children's program is a series of storybooks called the PearBear Chronicles, which teaches children the importance of good nutrition, and imparts valuable reading skills and good values for living. Download and read the chronicles posted in the Just for Kid’s section.

Our Pear Buddies believe that “Fruit + Fitness = Fun!” and their actions show it! A series of coloring sheets, a fun activity book and plush Pear Buddy dolls all have the buddies showing how active play is an important element in childhood nutrition habits.

Use either of these mascots along with other items in this website to assist you in teaching pear nutrition to your students. Be sure to visit our Nutrition section, where the health and nutrition benefits of pears are detailed. This section might be also useful when teaching older children.
